It's a fair question: if your business already has an Instagram and a Facebook page with a decent following, do you really need a separate website? Yes — and it's not close. Here's why.
You don't own your social media presence
A platform can change its algorithm, restrict your account, or go out of favor overnight, and there's very little you can do about it. Your website is the one piece of your online presence you fully control — no platform can throttle its reach, hide it from your own followers, or delete it.
A website is where trust gets built
When someone is deciding whether to actually spend money with you — not just follow you — they check your website. It's where they look for real proof: what you offer, what it costs, what other customers say, and whether you look like a business that will show up when promised. A polished Instagram grid doesn't answer those questions the way a clear, well-organized website does.
It's the only place you show up in Google Search
Social profiles rarely rank well in Google. A website — built with your services, location, and content in mind — is what allows you to show up when someone searches "[your service] near me" or researches options before buying. Without one, you're invisible to a huge share of local search traffic.
It works while you sleep
A website with a booking form, a clear phone number, or an online order option keeps working after hours — collecting leads and sales while you're closed. A social post from three days ago, buried under newer content, isn't doing that job anymore.
The two aren't actually competing
This isn't an argument against social media — it's genuinely valuable for staying visible and building relationships. The point is that social media and a website do different jobs. Social gets attention; your website converts that attention into an actual customer. You need both, working together, not one instead of the other.
